Incredible production – the choreography, dancers, sets, music … everything was exquisite.

Our multiage family tremendously enjoyed today’s production. The dancers, costumes, and live music were unforgettable. Also, the entire atmosphere from reindeer outside to crafts, treats, and photographic opportunities established the holiday season. A worthwhile, memorable experience.

I get such enjoyment and uplift from ballet. The Nutcracker, very much provides. The work and energy that goes into the performance.

What a wonderful performance! First time seeing the Nutcracker and was not disappointed!

The whole experience was excellent! We come every year and this years may have been the best! We ate at Cadillac Cafe and then went to The Nutcracker. Great show put on by all! See you next year!

I took my oldest son (8) and my mother to this event. It was supposed to be very nostalgic for us, my mother used to take me as a child many Christmases! I enjoyed the performance but was a bit disappointed in a few things! First of all the first half was much different! The stage was smaller than its old venue I believe the Fox. The intermission did not allow much time for anything mainly because the bathroom line to go downstairs was horrific, and my mother is only able to use an elevator, so I had to take her to the upstairs one which was much farther from our seats and my son had to go downstairs! It was a mess, let alone the lines to get anything to drink (I just wanted a bottled water,) were VERY long! I did appreciate the absopure however for a quick drink. Then I went an hour early to get pics for my son with the nutcracker, didn’t get that done because of the lines and didn’t want to be late. But once again had to wait for the elevators because of my poor mum. Lastly, it was a much quicker performance than I remember, and there were a few pieces of music I felt were missing or maybe just in a different order(I used to have it all memorized) But the sugar plum fairy I believe is who she was in the violet was amazing, and the other couple that I cannot recall their names were the best dancers by far! The costumes were beautiful but again a bit different. To my son for his first time, he very much enjoyed himself!

Complete disappointment! I have gone to so many Nutcracker performances that this performance by far was lacking a whole lot! Great disappointment to myself and my guests, would not recommend attending in the future! The amount of performers were nearly had of what was in the past, the dancers were off tune to the music, I can go on and on! Save your time and money!

The performance was excellent.

What a great performance! We were in the mezzanine, but could see well. We were surrounded by other kids, some of whom gave periodic commentary on the nutcracker, but it only enhanced the experience. For example, we overheard a 7-year old say “And that proves that magic is not real” and his friend say, “but those mice look real.” The sugar plum fairy was fantastic…graceful, peaceful, and magestic, all at the same time. The adult Clara was also impressive. And all the little kids in the performance were fun to watch. Finally, the opportunity to go back stage at the end and meet the cast members was really fun. Thank you Detroit opera for a wonderful afternoon!

So glad BalletMet is back in Detroit. Their production of The Nutcracker was magical. Amazing dancing, beautiful scenery and our Detroit Opera House Orchestra sounded wonderful! Incredible dancing from our local dancers, too! Please come back again next year, BalletMet. It’s a holiday tradition that shouldn’t be missed!

What a wonderful performance. I brought both my elderly mother and my young daughter and we all enjoy it tremendously. We would recommend it to anyone looking to enjoy the beauty of ballet.

The performance on Saturday night was stunning and we were so happy to be there to see it! The BalletMet company dancers were amazing technicians with beautiful performance quality! Our young ballet student friends who danced were also delightful and working very hard! It was an enjoyable evening of ballet! Thank you MOT for bringing ballet to Detroit!

Absolutely fabulous!!! I was unable to take my eyes off the stage!

This show was even better than I hoped! The choreography was beautiful, entertaining, and lively. The set and costumes were gorgeous! The dancers were some of the best I’ve seen. The first act included tasteful humor and was entertaining enough to keep my husband’s interest. Very magical and high quality show! Recommend it to everyone and will go again!

We saw the last performance of this year’s Nutcracker on Sunday, Nov. 25. This performance was not my first viewing of the ballet, and I must admit that I was disappointed. The orchestra sounded put together, but thin. The dancing was OK, but not on the highest level of technique and artistry. The group dancers were often not exactly together in forming straight lines, and in coordinating their movements. However, the absolute weakest point was the choreography. It was chaotic and uninventive, especially in the second act.
Compare to other productions I’ve seen in Detroit Michigan Opera, it was the worst. I think that because it is alsways a guaranteed sold-out production, it should not fall below a certain artistic level, as it would eventially damage good reputation of the DMO.

The Nutcracker at MOT was so wonderful to experience! I was going to say, “to watch”, but I found myself drawn into the story and transported by the lovely dance and music. The grace, strength and agility of all the dancers was inspiring and beautiful. Thank you for this holiday treat.

It was nice to experience the familiar, but also fun variations! My big disappointment was my seats, When I ordered on line, I chose seats more to the front, but upon arrival, found myself way in the back on the first floor!! I suggest you really pay attention to what you are booking. I also felt the orchestra was a delight, but only could not hear their pieces well for many of the songs. Was it the back seating? We were so happy we arrived early enough, as the entire hall was bustling with so many people. Everyone was in a festive mood, and many staff were on hand to guide to destinations.

I look forward to this production each year to kickoff my holiday season. I choose the evening performance because I understand children’s noise. What I cannot understand is the new lax etiquette allowing food and drink in the performance! So distracting! The performance started late, continuous walking in the aisles throughout the performance, videos being taken. I left at intermission. It seems if these people want to attend opera, ballet they should understand the etiquette. And the theater should enforce best practice. If the caliber of the audience continuous to deteriorate I feel we will have lost the last bastion of the arts. Sadly disappointed this year.

After reading some of the other reviews, I was a little apprehensive about attending this production. Granted, I’m not a purist nor frequently attending the ballet, but I wouldn’t hesitate seeing it again. As was frequently noted in many of the comments, this Nutcracker contains a whimsical edge, but it was largely in the first act and didn’t strike me as overdone.
The second act had a more traditional choreography. The dancing was beautiful, the costumes and set were very well done, and having a live orchestra and choir was everything I’d hoped for. This performance was great for kids and adults alike.

What a magical performance! We were transported from the first minute till the last one in the fairy world where everything is possible. The dancers performance was AMAZING ,the costumes were so well done and in line with the movements. Literally impressed by the very high level of the dancers, the decors, the costumes and the global team work and coordination that I could feel. Bravo Bravo Bravo c’etait superbe.
Every time we go to the Detroit Opera House, it is always a ticket to an enchanted world that stimulates many of our dormant senses and sensibility. Vive l’Art, vive la musique et vive la dance
