Reviews: Gianni Schicchi Buoso’s Ghost

More about this production.

Jack - Ann Arbor

Good music, singing, acting, costumes and set. MOT deserves credit for giving younger singers a chance at lead roles. It was good to have a chance to talk to Michael Ching after the performance.

Larry - Royal Oak

Delightful! The two operas work so very well together, (of course!) I really liked how the composer of "Buoso's Ghost" incorporated themes from Puccini's opera in the orchestra. The performances were excellent. Good staging and characterizations. Lots of laughs. I'd go again.

Barbara - Southgate

Excellent! Absolutely loved it!

Tenormary - Rochester Hills

This is not one of my favorite operas to be honest. I found the production to be a bit "camp" - which might be appealing to folks who are not regular opera attendees. At first it was difficult to hear the singers over the orchestra, but that probably has as much to do with the acoustics at Macomb Center as to the singers. Vocal quality of the lead singers was uneven however.
The set adapted well to the limited stage at the M.C.

Harriet S - Detroit

Great performances of both this "old" and the "new" comic opera that captures greed, intelligence, love and human nature in many different ways. It was well sung and well acted by the leads and those who had smaller parts. I especially enjoyed the addition of Michael Ching's "Buosi's Ghost". It added a new dimension to this comedic opera and was worth listening to - and hearing again. My compliments to Mr. Ching for thinking about extending the story and the music and doing an excellent job with both
