Michigan Opera Theatre Announces 2018-19 Dance Series, Celebrating Modern Dance and Dance Legends!
Michigan Opera Theatre’s 2018-19 dance series is celebrating modern dance and dance legends! The modern dance line-up follows the movement through generations, featuring Martha Graham Dance Company (founded in 1926), Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater (founded in 1958) and Bill T. On the classical side, audiences are in for a special treat with a program featuring Italian dance legend Alessandra Ferri. With a career spanning nearly four decades, Ferri has performed with some of the best dance companies around the globe, including the Royal Ballet, American Ballet Theatre and La Scala Theatre Ballet. She is one of only 11 ballerinas in the world to have been awarded the title of “prima ballerina assoluta,” a rare honor bestowed upon the best dancers of a generation. In“Alessandra Ferri: The Art of the Pas de Deux,” Ferri will star with other international ballet dancers for a program Valentine’s Day weekend showcasing romantic duets.
The classical ballet program will also include the return of Columbus’s BalletMet for their traditional production of “The Nutcracker.”
